ABOUT US
⠀
MADE IN COSMOS produces unique jewelry of meteorite since 2017. We mostly use meteorite Muonionalusta (found in 1906 in Sweden), Sikhote-Alin meteorite (fell in Russia, 12.02.1947) and the Campo del Cielo meteorite (was found by the Spanish conquistadors in 1576, in Argentina).
Our company is a member of International Meteorite Collectors Association (IMCA Inc.)

ARE METEORITES RADIOACTIVE?
Many people believe that meteorites are radioactive, but fortunately it is not. This myth has been popularized by movies and comics about superheroes.
You can be sure — it's absolutely safety!

HOW TO CARE FOR METEORITE JEWELLERY
Iron reacts with oxygen to oxidize, resulting in rust. This process may be accelerated by incorrect storage conditions, so we recommend following the following guidelines: ⠀
1. Store the item in a dry place.
2. After water gets in, wipe the decoration dry with a soft rag or towel.
3. Try to prevent salt water from entering, since this is almost 100% likely to lead to rust.
You can easily clean it yourself at home with a toothpaste and soft brush.
WHAT ABOUT METEORITES
Meteorites are fragments of asteroids that have landed on the Earth's surface. Most of them come from the Asteroid Belt (located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter).
The age of meteorites is ~ 4.5 billion years.
Each day about 5-6 tons of meteorites falls to the Earth (about 2 thousand tons per year). Most of the meteorites burn out before they reach the ground: entering the atmosphere, the speed of a meteorite can reach from 11 to 72 km / s.
Due to friction against the air, it ignites and resembles a bright fireball. It happens that the internal structure of a meteorite is heterogeneous and unstable: then it explodes in the air, and its debris falls to the ground.
This phenomenon is called a meteor shower.
Hypothetically, meteorites are the fragments of an unformed planet. They are divided into three types: stone meteorites — the remnants of its crust, iron meteorites — its core, and iron-stone meteorites — the intermediate layers of the planet.
Stone meteorites are the largest group (92.8% of all meteorites reaching the Earth). The main minerals in their composition are various silicates, consisting of compounds of silicon, oxygen, aluminum, magnesium and calcium.
Iron meteorites consist of 90% iron, 9% nickel and 1% other elements.
At the beginning of the 19th century scientists noticed that when etched with acid, interesting figures appeared on the polished surface of an iron meteorite, consisting of longitudinal and transverse stripes. In honor of the Austrian scientist Aloise von Widmanstetten in 1808, these figures were called Widmanstetten.
Despite the fact that the theory of the emergence of these figures is well studied, it was impossible to recreate them in laboratory conditions.
